Dan Dare’s City

Dan Dares City in the Sky

After my shift, I had taken the lift
To dan dares city in the sky
It was only a dream, a beautiful scene
A daydream phantom passing by

Its gonna make you cry
The beast is gonna get you
You know, It’s just a matter of time
Planet earth / Was of good birth

With flaming fire / In the sky
Planet earth / Was of good birth
With ocean deep and land so dry

I had taken a car with Venus and Mars
To dan dares city in the sky
We stopped for a bite, when the red turned to white
At the crossroad diner in the night

The beast is gonna get you
It will get you – When the ammo is low
The beast is gonna get you
It will get you – If you move too slow

Planet earth / Was of good birth
With flaming fire / In the sky
Planet earth / Was of good birth
With ocean deep and land so dry

I used to read the Eagle children’s comic as a kid, it was very impressive to someone like me in the 1950’s.
Dan Dare comic strip was a science fiction story that appeared every week, i was especially glad when it appeared in colour. I don’t know if there ever was a city in the sky in the storyline, there probably was.

I wrote a poem with this in the verse in the 1990’s. And I kept remembering it, until I saw it could be also a song. It was recorded in the Tigersonic studio near Caledonia Tube station. Felix the studio lady added the drum track, thankfully, which improves it a lot. My vocal is patchy because of health issues. but at least I managed to get this far with the song. Give it a listen, maybe, if you want, and I hope you like it.

Later on in a week or two I will add it to my Bandcamp list where it will probably languish unheard for years and years and years.

The day I lost my face

I ran across the bubbling fires
Without a hint of grace
With shadow puppets dancing
On the day I lost my face

I saw the night-time dripping black
Of humanity, was no trace
So deep I fell into the moon
On the day I lost my face

The rivers ran like wolf packs hard
Down ravines of forgotten place
Where no life at all took hold
On the day I lost my face

Across the skies the echoes raged
The hunters ride thru space
The vengeful howls of giants fell
On the day I lost my face

Like a nursery rhyming slum
Of frogs and snails in ponds of scum
The roaring of the angry past
Took their form on seas so vast

As sun shone seashore reasons melt
All history like dripping iron-smelt
As stars were snatched out of the sky
And burning arrows were let fly

Alone in demon meeting place
The day I lost my face
