After my shift, I had taken the lift To dan dares city in the sky It was only a dream, a beautiful scene A daydream phantom passing by
Its gonna make you cry The beast is gonna get you You know, It’s just a matter of time Planet earth / Was of good birth
With flaming fire / In the sky Planet earth / Was of good birth With ocean deep and land so dry
I had taken a car with Venus and Mars To dan dares city in the sky We stopped for a bite, when the red turned to white At the crossroad diner in the night
The beast is gonna get you It will get you – When the ammo is low The beast is gonna get you It will get you – If you move too slow
Planet earth / Was of good birth With flaming fire / In the sky Planet earth / Was of good birth With ocean deep and land so dry
I used to read the Eagle children’s comic as a kid, it was very impressive to someone like me in the 1950’s. Dan Dare comic strip was a science fiction story that appeared every week, i was especially glad when it appeared in colour. I don’t know if there ever was a city in the sky in the storyline, there probably was.
I wrote a poem with this in the verse in the 1990’s. And I kept remembering it, until I saw it could be also a song. It was recorded in the Tigersonic studio near Caledonia Tube station. Felix the studio lady added the drum track, thankfully, which improves it a lot. My vocal is patchy because of health issues. but at least I managed to get this far with the song. Give it a listen, maybe, if you want, and I hope you like it.
Later on in a week or two I will add it to my Bandcamp list where it will probably languish unheard for years and years and years.
